There was a full house at the Harbour Light Theatro last •evening,.. when "Going Up," starring Douglas McLean, was screened, together with a, comedy, gazette, and an epißodo of the Jack Dcmpsey serial, ''Fight jtnd Win." Tho chief attraction, however, Undoubtedly was the appearance of twonty of the clever pupils of; Miss Bessie Macdonald, The pupils, who rango from adults down to quite tiny tots, gave a most spectacular danco recital, lasting some forty minutes. Tho solo dancers wore Sheelah Chapman, Nola. Donovan, Joan Osborne, Delia Prisk, Arline Powor, Ralph lUchards, Pat Gregory, Mae Miller, Enid Lawson, Ada Rawson, Maureen Campbell, and several pretty ballets were danced by tho older girls. Tho picturo portion of ISiB., programme will bo repeated to-night. To-Ynorrow, "Secrets of the Night," featuring .Madge Bellamy,and James Kirkwood, will be shown. The supporting programme includes a Century comedy and a gazette. The Gaol Site. Mr J. McCombs, M.P., has received the following communication from tho Minister of Eduoation:—Roforring to your interview with mo on tho 28th ultimo, in which, you stated. thaWho Lyttelton. Borough Council nnght be willing to help put the Lyttelton school grounds (gaol site) in order if'this wero permissible under legislation. I have to eay that I hava looked "into tho matter, and find that provision for such donation already exists. It is contained in Section 29 of tho Education Amendment Act, 1920, which reads aa follow*:—Any local authority may from time to timet out of its general funds, contribute such sum as it thinks fit to any School Committee or to the. Board or governing body of any secondary school or the Council of any University Collego for the purpose of increasing the efficiency of such school or college, and may, for the "purpose, make a grant by lease cr otherwise, of. land or buildings, nothing in any Act to tho contrary notwithstanding.
