BANKS PENINSULA R.C.'S MEETING.

CHANGE OF VENUE. Permission having teen obtained from the Minister of Internal Affairs, the combined meeting of the Banks Peninsula Racing Club and Braekenfield Hunt will now be held at lliccarton on Saturday instead of at the club a course at Motukarara. Had the necessary change of venue not been granted, the meeting would have had to be abandoned as the grounds at MotuUaxa were wider water, and with the rising of Lake Ellesmere, due to the- recc t heavy weather, natural drainape was impeded, giving no hope of rea.son.nhlo or We going on Saturday. Under the circumstances owners were chary oi naying up for their horses and it was tfeemed advisable to postpone the closinsr of acceptances until this overnmj at G o'clock, but now that the Minister has expressed his approval of tie chango of location the fields should be loree enough to produce a very interesting day's racing. The club is indebted to the Hon. B, F. Bollard in granting its request, ond to the trustees and the Canterbury Jnckov Club in loaning the course and enclosures for the gathering. HUNT CLUBS. MINISTER AND DEPUTATION. (STSOIiI TO "TH2 MSS9.") AUCKLAND, Juno 10. It IS not the intention of the Government to bring down legislation abolishing Hunt Club racing, was tho reassuring statement made by tho Minister of Internal Affairs (tho Hon. R. F. Bollard) to a deputation from tho Waikato Hunt Club. Major A. M. Bamuel said tho Hunt Club did-not want to loso its identity, and regarded itself as being moro important than a racing club. He stressed the value hunting horses had been in the war, wheroas no racehorses had been empl«red. Tho Waikuto Club had 150 members, all of ivhom bred horses for hunting. Ho asked whether tho club was in duty Bound to amalgamate with tho To Awamutu Eacing Club, a club, ho said, that was not strong financially and might mean tho downfall of the Hunt Club. Mr Wynn Brown said hunting clubs were permitted to hold race mootings for tho purpose of securing rovonuo. Tho club's race.meeting in Hamilton on Labour' Day wtib tho most popular onoday meeting in New Zealand. The Minister aaid the only legislation hoproposed to bring down noxt session affeoting racing was to reliove some of tho smaller racing clubs by making the Government totalisator lovy U per cent, instead of 2J por cent, on tho first £20,000. Tho monoy thus, accruing to thoso clubs would be required to be spent on improvements and not on stakes. Tho legislation would be embodied, in tho rinanco Bill. Tho Prims iiinistor had approvod of this course. So far as doing away with hunt-club permits was: concerned, tho Minister said ho knew nothing about it. So long as he was Minister of Internal Affairs ho would never agree to doing away with the hunt, clubs. Ho had never' suggested that hunt clubs should amalgamate with racing clubs. The Bacing Conference had gone a little too far. Ho. had suggested that where there' were a number of small racing clubs such as in tho southern districts, efforts" should-'bo-madd"to*amalgamate somo of themx ■ Hunt club's, could race where they.liked in their ;OWn. hunting aroa. Tho Waikato Club could race at Matainata or To Aroha if it. wished. Ho was not in favour of tho club amalgamating with the To Awamutu Bacing Club. Major Samuel, in thanking tihe Minister for his assurance, remarked that the racing clubs were trying to beat the Hunt-.Club, for its'.racing day. The. Minister: As*.you have, raced on Labour .Day; since ypuvhaye, started, my advice is to stick to it. '•■ r •
