Saturday the Westport Stockton Coal Company shipped 1212 tons of ,coah Tho Clydevale Mining- Company is, working on. a lift seam of coal, and tho aerial service is proving satisfactory. ' The Westport Coal Company shipped 8582 tons of coal last week. Buller Bughy Union. At the weekly meeting of the Buller Eugby Union, it was resolved to protost to tho New Zealand Union against the exclusion of representatives of the Seddon Shield districts from the New Zealand Selection Committee. Mr T. Winghanij.president of. thn West Coast Eugby League and manager of the team for Australia, has sent tho following telegram to the New Zcaiand Council:—"We cannot understand this system used in the selection.-. of the South Island team. It appears to bo a case of Canterbury against tho North Island on tho 27th, as Canterbury has nine players selected and the Coast two. The improvement on the Coastthis and last season places us on an equality with any other province. . Mears, a. local forward,;-is recognised as the best man in the South Island, and is not even an emergency. Several of tho players selected would uoti be included in somo of tho West Coast club teams. This League wishes to sco the best possible team go on tour."

Poultry Club. At a meeting of tho Greymouth Poultry Club, the annual report was road and adopted. It stated that the inaugural show had proved a great succoss, and .the four championships which had been allotted to the club brought some of the best birds in the South Island.- This year tho South Island Association had allotted to the club tho championships ••' for. The long spell of fine weather and absence of freshes in the river have. resulted in the shoaling of the bar, causing the shipping companies to restrict the draught of vessels loading at Greymouth. ' Archdeacon Carr conducted tho services at Holy Trinity Church and at the graveside. Messrs H. J. Bignell and E. "Wild left this morning for Christchurch in

order to attend a meeting of tho Canterbury Education Board. ' • The marriage was solemnised this morning at St. John's Church of Mr Richard Roger Hall to Miss Agnes Rosina Peillon. . The Rev. T. N. Cuttle officiated.' After tho ceremony the happy couplo left on route for Dunedin by tho express. Tho Rev. Bro. Tarcicius, Director of the Marist Bros.' Schooly left for Christchurch this morning in order to attend lua father's funeral. . Mr William C. Edwards, formerly a well-known resident of Otira,whero he was associated with McLean;Bros., died last evening at tho Auckland/Hospital. Mr R. Hampton, president of tin A.S.R.S., will address moetings of railwaymen in the West Coast centres next month. Dr. Bruce Roy acted as lecturer at the St. John Ambulance Class which was held last evenii'g. Dry Spell. Blaketown and Cobden householders are beginning to complain of a shortage of water as a. result of tho dry spell. Perfect weather prevails with no sign of breaking. ' ( .Harbour Board. A special.! meeting of the Greymouth Harbour Board was held;to-night to fix tho rental for sections hold, by the Board in the Bfuhner andDbbson districts. • Members recognised that if tho Board could form the streets the amount it would fee enabled to ask would bo cdrrespondiiigly higher, but a legal authority whoso advice had been obtained had expressed the opinion that tho Board had no power to do so. After discussion, it was resolved not to accept any liability in tho matter of street formation in the Dobson township. Rentals wero then fixed for a large;.number of sections, the prices decided upon ranging from £1 to £4. Italian Immigrants. There is a considerable influx of Italian immigrants, many of whom are obtaining employment at tho State mines. • '
