Estou, of tiic Post Office staff, was presented by the United Football Club with a fountain-pen on the : 'eve of his departure for Wellington on transfer. Tho funeral of the late Mrs. W. P.. Lair was largely attended. The service at. the graveside was read by tho Bcv. T. X. Cuttle, who also conducted a memorial service at .St. John's Church.

The death occurred last evening at Hokitika of Mr James Charles Martin, a native of Oxford. Canterbury, a.t the age of 60 years. The deceased is survived bv three sisters.

Mr Peter Nelson, a Greymouth pioneer, died last evening at his residence in Pdaketown. at the age of !>0 years. Deceased was a native of Denmark, and leaves a family of four sons and one daughter. He had resided in this district for over half a. century, and was a well-known -boatman in the early days. Messrs "W. A. Jamieson and H. T. Parry (Hokitika) leave to-morrow for Palmerston North, where they will attend the Winter Show.

A Property Sale. At Iteefton on Saturday the Exchange Hotel and Princess Theatre were sold by auction for £1950. The competition was poor. ■
