SHIPPING DISPUTE.

TROUBLE EXPECTED IN

AUSTRALIA

(BX CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—CQFTBHSST.) (AUSTRALIAN ASP N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.)

MELBOURNE, June 15,

developments which occurred during the- wock-eud ■have changed the delaying of the steamer Monaro from being an isolated ease of union interference to one affecting interstate shipping policy. ;

It is now believed in maritime circles that the dispute will lead to a climax in the tangled affairs of the waterfront.

The Melbourne Steamship' Company has decided to pay off the Monaro's crew and tie tho vessel up. SYDNEY, June 15.

In response to an advertisement for seamen to man the steamers Eromanga and Dilga at Cockatoo Island, a few men have applied, and hopes are now entertained that the whole 90 required will be forthcoming.

SYDNEY NOT YET AFFECTED.

(AUSTRALIAN AOT N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.)

(Received June 15th, 10.50 p,ni.) SYDNEY, Juuq 15."

The opinion in shipping circles is that there will be a hold-up in inter-State shipping following upon the - deregisr tration of the Seamen's Union. The shipowners are apparently forcing the issue.

So far Sydnoy is not affected by the decision of the Melbourne shipowners not to place in new articles a clause guaranteeing the same wages and conditions as those existing beforo the Union's deregistratjon, but the articles of inter-State yessois trading with Sydney will shortly expire and the fight js then expected to begin hero. The Melbourne Wharf Labourers' Union declined to handle cargo from the Monara unless steam was supplied by Union donkfeymen.
