' some of the greatest improvements in tyre manufacture. It is proud to 1 first to introduce the new low pressure Flat Tread Tyre, the newest development in the tyre industry. It has taken the American public easily the greatest motoring public in the world —by storm. What are the features of this new Flat Tread low pressure tyre which have made it such an outstanding success .-> Imprint of a round Imprint of the new, flat tread Balloon Tire " Low-Pressure Tread" The above imprints shown are' from two Balloon' Tyres exactly the same size both under the same lorfd, both inflated at the same air pressure. Yet.the flat "Low-Pressure Tread" shows 22% more road contact than the other. By distributing the weight, the low pres- _ sure tread lessens;the pressure;on each tread block. 1. Prevents Early and Uneven Tread year. Careful study by the United States Rubber Co's. engineers demonstrated that the round tread on most high pressure tyres w impracticable for Balloon tyres. The peculiar shape a round-tread Balloon tyre takes when under load and moving, and the consequent working of these parts of jhe tread on which the weight is concentrated causes the tread to wear in two bands, one on each side of the centre of the tyre. This makes the tread wear, unevenly'and quickly. 2.—Gives 22% More Road Contact The new flat Tread with its flat contour gives 22% greater area of road contact. Because of this better load distribution there is much less tread distortion and tread -movement — two factors which add to early. tread wear in round tread Balloon Tyres. 3.—Better Non-Skid Protection because the flexible outer row of tread Mods* is in full contact with the road. > 4.—Easier Steering With the New Flat Tread* REAL BALLOON CUSHIONING. But above all the new, Flat "Love Pre*. sure" Tread permits running the tyre ont!»« low inflation necessary to give real Balloon Tyre cushioning—-without causing-earljr, uneven and disfiguring tread wear. This i*.ot great importance because a few pounds increase, even four or five pounds, in air pre»- ' sure in a Balloon Tyre will greatly effect it* riding quality and comfort.
