THE NEW BISHOP

STATEMENT BY THE DEAN. TO TUr. KDtTOK OF "THE PRESS." Sir, —In view of a statement published in a Christchurch paper with regard to the nomination of a Bishop by the Anglican Synod, may I be permitted to say that any such statement, by whosoever communicated, must be either an idle conjecture or a gross breach of confidence. An authoritative statement will he made through tho Press as soon as the matter is settled, and until that is done I would advise tho public interested to pay no attention to anything they may hear, or see in print on the subject.—Yours, etc., C. W. CAKRIXGTOX. The Deanery, Christchurch. P.S.—I may add that tho clergyman to whom tho offer was made is unable to seo his way to accept nomination.
