' Band of Hope. A meeting: of the Lytteltou United Band of Hope was held in the Presbyterian Schoolroom on Friday evening, when, considering' tho inclement -weather, there -was a very good attendance. The Rev. W. F. Nichol presided. An address on "The Tragedies of Alcohol" was given by Messrs Blazey and Clark, of Christrlnirch. An enjoyable programme was then submitted, those contributing items being Nance Wilson (recitation), Mrs Bacon (solo), Averill Lester (recitation), Miss Crocker (solo), and.Mrs Priddy (recitation). The accompaniments were played by Miss Ilatehwcll. Harbour Light Theatre. "Red Lights,"'-'a.'First National drama, • starring Alice Lake, was the feature film at the Harbour Ligh\ Theatre orl Saturday night. The supporting programme, included a comedy, gazette, and scenic. The large audience was delighted with the turn provided by Krnest Pitcher, a vaudeville artist with a'u Australian and Now Zealand reputation, and he had to respond to an insistent encore. 'Mr Alec Dey, in humorous recitations of a high standard; also earned much appreciation. The picture portion of the programme will bo repeated to-night. To-morrow, "Going. Up," from the musical comedy of that name, and featuring Douglas McLean, will be screened, together with u comedy, and a further episode of the Jack Dempscy serial; "Fight and Win.*' A special attraction at tho evening session will be tho appearance of twenty of tho clever pupils of Miss Bessie Macdonald in a forty minutes' dance recital. Seamen's Institute. The weekly concert at the Seamen's Institute on Thursday evening was given by theChristchurch Ladies* Guild. Those contributing . items were:—-Misses Loughnan,' Holmore, and Mathias, and Messrs _Tobiu and Vernon. Choruses were - sung, led by the ladies, and entered into by the seamen. Mesdames Hall and Vernon were in' charge of the concert party, and supervised the supper given at the close. ■ Tiro Brigade Eucnre. c Tho .fortnightly euchre tournament was held in the Fire Brigade social room,on Saturday night, when thero was an attendance of • over forty. The results were:—Mrs J. Ahstad and Mrs W. G. Carson (equal) 1; Mrs A. Arneson,'' consolation. Men: A. Wyatt, 1; M.. Nelson, consolation. There iwas a. good attendance at tho weekly euchre . tournament and danco at .the.- Foresters' Hall on Saturday night, about sevdnty participating in the ouch re. The winners were:—Ladies: Mrs W. Gardner 1, Mrs M. Barnes 2;; Mrs E. Barraclough consolation. Men.: B. Graham 1, E. Corkjn 2; F. Fowlds consolation.'
