MR J. C. NEWLANDS'S SECOND
RECITAL,
Even though it was Tret and/ icy. cold .du appreciative audience witnessed the second elocution recital of Air J. C. ■Norlands in the Choral Hall last night. Mr JNewlands is aptly described as. & fellow of infinite jest." \Hc possesses an excellent voice and his manner or delivery and stage appearance are pleasing. Last night his recital in the tongno of Shakespeare 01 the love.story of "Konioo -'ii'l .Juliet" mm warmly ap.plar.ded. Other items on the gramme were: Scene from The Heart of Midlothian"' (Sir Walter &cott); "Jeanie Deans and the Laird d Dnmbiedykes"; scene irom "Oliver Twist" '(Chrrles Dickens), Mr Bumble and Mrs Corney before Marriage —Mr and Mrs Bumble after Marriage. A new programme will he presented to-night, when Mr Norlands will give his final reciti.l. Such items as '•-Admirals A.U" (New bolt), "The Bells' (PooV'TlieLonlcey'' (Chesterton), "The Barren" (Poe) and "Forty Singing Seamen (Noyes) are always worth hearing, and when rendered by such a master artist- as Mr NowlancU one can -bo sure of heaving them performed to perfection". The "Trial. Scene" .from '•"l'be Merchant of Venice'-' trill bo the principal item, all' tiro ■ various characters, the Duke,. Antonio. Tiassanio, Gratir.no. Sillerio. Shylock. Nerissa and Portia will be represented.
