Band of Hope,
A meeting of the United Band of Jiopd will be held in the Presbyterian schoolroom this evening, when Mr Blazey, of Christchurch, will give an address. School of Religious Education. On Tuesday evening a. meeting of the Lyttelton branch of the School ofReligious Education was held in St. John's Presbyterian schoolroom, under the leadership of Miss Freda. Warner. 'J he subject for discussion during the evening was "Music and Worship," which was taken under various headings. Miss Warner emphasised the nced\for spontaneous reality in prayer and song. The .best musio provided for the upward growth in the life and mind of the child. Prayer should , bo doselv related to the. needs and desires of all. This was applied to the various stage* of childhood. In conclusion, Miss Warner briefly outlined the order of the service as it. should come in ihe>» Sunday School. The Rev. S. Bailey proposed a. hearty vole of thanks to Miss Warner- for her very instructive lecture, which was carried unanimously. Harbour Light Theatre. ( "The Slanderers," starring Johnnie Wulker, will bo repeated at the Harbour Light Theatre, together with two comedies and a gazette. To-morrow, "Rod Lights," a mystery drama, featuring Alice Lake, will be screened. The supporting programme includes a comedy, gazette, and\scenic. A special attraction at the evening session ■will be the appearance of.. Ernest Pitcher, known in vaudeville as "The Big Mug," and of Mr Alec Day, humorous reciter. A.O.F. The fortnightly mooting of the Court Queen of the Isles Foresters' Lodge, was held last evening, C.ll. Bio. A. Shriinpton presiding over a, laige attendance. Sick pay and accounts were passed for payment, there being two members on tho sick funds. The executive officers of the district were present in order to present P.D.C.R. Bro. F. "Pioberton with diploma, and neck ribbon. In making tho presentation, P.D.C.R. Bro. liudkin impressed the members with the good work dono for Forestry by Bro. Roucrton during his term of office, and said that tho Court Queen cf. tho Isles should bo proud of such capable officers. The other members of the executive also spoke in l>raiso of .Bro. Roberton. In returning thanks, Bro. Roberton said that Forestry, aB ho knew it, was a. Brotherhood not only in name, but in deeds, nnd ,he would still continue to do all in his power to further tho good work. It was decided to hold tho ÜBual caxd match on Saturday evening. The meeting then adjourned and a convivial hour was epent. • Shipping for May. • It was reported at yesterday's meeting of tho Lyttelton Harbour Board that during the month of May, 1925, 12G vessels with a total net tonnage of 160,306 tons entered tho port of Lyttelton, as compared with 128 vessels aggregating 146,557 tons in the corresponding period twelve months ago, as shown below: May, 1925. .
