GBEYMOUTH, June 11.
The erection of buildings estimated to cost £I9OO was authorised last month by tho Groymouth Borough Council. Permits were issued for two dwellings. Opossum Season. Only 11 licenses to trap opossums have been issued this season by the Acclimatisation Society, as against 25 last year. It is believed that fondling is being practised on a considerable scale. Grey Power-house. A large number of men arc now employed i» excavating work at Dobson iu "preparation -for the powerhouse, and the construction of the railway lino to the site is weiL forward. Supreme Court. The following business will he dcnlc with at tho Greymouth sitting of the Supreme Court: — -~ In divorce: Matilda Mary Turner v. James Tumor; James William Patterson v. Myrtle Constance Patterson, restitution of conjugal rights. Civil: James Ryan, Rotomanu, v. Isabella Chamberlain, claim for approximately £4OO for damages to fences and loss of stock. Bugby Football. The following players have been solected by Mr A. A. Adams to represent Grey against Wcstlaiwl at Hokitiku on Saturday:—Steele (captain), Goodall, Thomas, Larabcrton, Warnes, McKay, Mosley, .Tarden, Charteris, Eell, Jamicson, Lambert, G. Brown, T. Eurley, and Turtill; emergencies, Xclson and Black. BowUug. Mr V. Mori presided at the annual meeting of tho Keefton Bowling Club. The balance-sheet showed that there was a eredit of £l9. The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Mr "V. Mori; vice-presidents, Messrs A. B. West and M. Fagan; committee, Messrs A. Worry, P. Collis, C. Kevin, D. Woods, W. Tattley; hon. auditor, Mr A. Werry; Ground Committee, Messrs A. W. Tattley, Collis, and Woods; secre-tary-treasurer, Mr F. Scawright; Selection Committee, Messrs Mori, Blackmore, and Tattley; delegate to the West Coast Centre, the president. Personal. • Mr E. M. Williams, borough engineer, was admitted to the Grey Hospital yesterday suffering from appendicitis. Mr A. H. Kimbell, Under-Secretary for Mines/and Mr J. A. C. Bayne, ehief inspector, arrived from Wellington to-day. Mr and Mrs J..-F. Leitch, of Greymouth, are . visiting Christchurch. Mr and Mrs F. Davidson left this morning for Tiiharu. The marriage was solemnised last evening of Mr John Fergusson, of Harihari, to Miss Harriet Parker, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs F. Parker, of Kanieri. The Eev. P. B. Fraeer officiated. Miss M. Parker was the bridesmaid, and Mr H. Shearer best man. The happy couple left by today's express fot Christchurch. Borough Council. The Greymouth Borough Council mot to-night. Present: The Mayor. (Mr W. H. Parfitt), and Crs.-F. A. Kitchingham, G.Perotti, B. J. Williams, J. Mc, Ginlcy, J. W. Greensladc, J.'B. Kent, H. F. Doogan, .G. E. Harker, and J. O'Brien, M;P. ..Doleiirates-Tvero present from the various sporting organisations interested in the Eecreation Ground in accordance with tho Council's decision to go into the matter t>f its maintenance and improvement.
After a general discussion Cr. Doogan moved that it be a recommendation to the Council that the engineer prepare an estimate of the cost of putting the whole reserve in order. He said another conference should then 1)0 called and the sporting bodies ehould each state what they wero prejaied to expend.
The resolution was carried. *■.. Cr. Greenslado moved, and if was carried, that tho sporting organisations be asked to state by next meeting •what they were prepared to pay for the use of the ground. II was also resolved to set up a coninittee from tho various organisations to arrange fixtures and charge days, the Council retaining the right to >eto. .
Tho Council decided, to open a fund for the proposed national memorial to the late. Prime Minister.
;Cr. O'Brien -was appointed the Council's representative on the deputation to • Cabinet in connexion with the coastal road. Tho Works' Committee was asked to ,report on tho cost of shelters on omnibu* routos.
It was resolved to request the Railway Department to provide a loading bunk at tho abattoir. On the recommendation- of the Finance Committee it was decided to proceed against bakers, who do not keep bread under cover. The tender of Mr J. Hart at £154 7s, for tho. extension of showroom at the gas office, was accepted. Magistrate's Court.. At "to-day's sitting of the Magistrate's Court, at Ilokitika, Mr W. Mcldrum, S.M., presiding, Walter- "Wil- ■ 3iams, Christchurch (Mr Joyce) sued 'W. O'Brien (Mr Murdoch) for £l9 10s damages as a result of a car accident on the Kokatahi road on September 10th. Judgment was given for £9 I Os 6d, with costs £6 19s 6d.
, Warden's Court. /At the Hokitika sitting of the "Warden's Court,, nine employees of the Awatuna Dredging Co. applied for permission to seU the area."
