BENEFIT CONCERT.
A very, enjoyable, concert was given on Wednesday evening in the Papanui Memorial Tom Hall by the Waimaiii Minstrels in aid, of a City Council employee who ha* bean til for a considerable time. Owing to the Mayor (Mr J. K. Archer) being unable to bo present" -until 8.30, Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P. (who was briefly introduced by Mr T. Holmes, convener of the Minstrel Troupe)* congratulated the employees of the St. Albans portion of the City Council on their cEort to help an' unfortunate workmate, and wished them every success. He also thanked tho Waimairi Minstrel Troupe for their service*. During the interval the; ..Mayor outlined the facts of the case, and; said he thought tho . employees wore showing the right spirit in endeavouring to. raise funds to assist the man's family. ' He would do his beat to get further assistance" lor the man, who had fought for. his country, - and who is suffering from the-afler-effectii of the war. Owing to. his haying received his discharge in England he does not draw a soldier'* pension in New j Zealind. Tho concert waa a great success in every way. Financially it quito reached, the expectations of tho energetic committee who organised ,it. Tho performers wero most .generous in responding to encores. After the concert the Council staff provided supper for the Troupe.
