ORARI ANGLICAN CHURCH.
The Anglican church at Orari, which has been a landmark in that part of Canterbury for many years on account of its tower, was totally destroyed by fire during Wednesday night. There is no indication as to the cause of the five and nothing was saved, the Communion vessels and a "valuable window beinglost among other things. The church originally stood at Geraldine, being the first church erected in the settlement, and was built in 1865. In 18G2 a new church was built and opened, snd the old church was used as a Sunday school, but; being a consecrated building, it could not be used for social purposes. Ultimately, at the beginning of .the century,.it,was removed to Orari, and half the tower was cut off. The timber of tho old church was cut out of the-local bush,- for tho most part pitsawn, and to the last it remained solid. The window lost was placed in • the church, bv the family of Mr G. A. 31. Macdonaid in "memory of their; father end.mother. The matter was mentioned at tho meeting of Synod yesterday, and sympathy was expressed with ; the vicar* Rev. HaroM Furchas, and parishioners, in their 1053.' "-
