BOOKMAKERS.

HOTEL LICENSEES WARNED. (press association teleoeam.) ELTHAM, June 10. A.warning to licensees that they must, not permit bookmakers to frequent their premises, or transact business, was issued by the Egmont Licensing Committee at its annual meeting. a Sergeant Henry (Hawera) said be would not mention specific hotels, but asked the committee to give a warning. . Mr A. M. Mowlem, chairman, said that the sergeant's complaint was no surprise, as such happenings; were common knowledge. Little reflection was needed by licensees to realise the risk they were running, not of being caught or being invomjd with bookies, but of losing their licenses. If they permitted bookies to carry on business an their premises they were.not the fit and proper persons which their license demanded they should be. The committee endorsed the sergeant's warning.
