INDUSTRIAL UNITY.

The scheme of the Alliance of Labour to bring ' the various, Trades and Labour Councils in the Dominion into its ranks was explained to a large meeting of trade unionists in the Trades Hall Jast evening by iir J. Bobcrts, the secretary of. the Alliance, and Mr It. Semite, organiser of the Freezing Workers' Federation. Mr J. Flocd presided After several questions hod been answered by the »,»eakers; the following resolution was pat to the meeting and carried unanimously:—"That this meeting of Qhristchurch trades unionists expresses its approval of the basis of industrial unity agreed upon by the open conference, convened by the New Zealand Alliance of Labour; and this mas. mealing of Christchurch unionists pledge themselves to do all ia their power to establish unity in the industrial field into one national organisation, embracing ell the wage-workers in Mew Zealand. Further, this meeting is of opinion that it is only by the unity of the wngo-ATbrkers, both industrial and political, that the present inadequate basic wa~e can "be increased, and the standard of living improved. This meeting therefore calls on all labour organisations to give tteir wholehearted support in establishing that unity and industrial comradeship so essential to the wo.-king cla&s interests." Votes of thanks were accorded the speakers.
