Hansen, jun., was presented witii a suitable gift on the occasion of his mar--11 Ttfi -following new players were elected members of the band:—Messrs Cummins, Sarginson, and Clarke. The annual report wa 3 as follows.— &b is seen in the statement of jiff lira -the sum of £179 3s 9d has been co.lected at Sunday concerts and £l3l Os-10d from the fete, which reflects . great credit on the member's and supporters. The sum of £l4O was won in prize money at tho Auckland contest. The municipal concerts soem the only item of revenue that is the least remunerative. Something should surely be dono to have this improved, as £oo lor eleven concerts is not a good. financial proposition, -especially as tie men haye to pay tram fares to the outlying districts. By ending tho year witli a balance- of usets over liabilities of £1417 12s. Id,, he band is in a strong position financially. The library was kept well stocked auwng' the year, and, owing to new engagements, many more light pieces had to be purchased. This will have to continue if the . latest music is played. The more difficult, music has not been overlooked, tho latest overtures and selections having been purchased or ordered. In February the band kurneyed to Auckland and gamed second place to the Malvern Tramways. . Though beaten, we were not disgraced, finishing the contest with 12 points to spare irora the next New Zealand band. In the hymn t«st we wero ono point behind the winners, out of 28 bands competing. The soloists did not do so well as in previous years, but it is well" to note that the Woolston Band had nearly double the number of soloists playing of &ny other band. Medals were won by No. 2 Quartette and Mr R. Wilson. Tho points gained by our roropetitors go to show that they were all "knocking at the door." .Being so 4 iar oway from Auckland, the expenses were very heavy, and nearly £SOO was expended; also tie travelling arrangements with the Railway Dewartment were not good,. this being probably due to either the great number in our party or to the railway authorities, not providing enough seating accommodation for. the number of bands travelling. During the year a fete was hel(L in Woolston. Park, and a moro successful function could hardly bo imagined. To the supporters who worked so hard all the season the sincerest thanks of the ■ members are due. After some delay, the band had an official notificAtion from; Messrs Hawkes and Son, London,.congratulating it on winning the Hawkes Shield outrigfct. Tho shield is now a valuable piece of furniture on the wall of the Band Hall. . .'■ . •
