The Sydney University footballers won the last match cf their tour to-day by defeating Auckland University by 18 points to 13, after a. gcod game. 'Williams converted and the score »t "uaff-time was: — , Auckland C, Sydney 3.
There wa3 an exciting opening to the second spell. A moment later another Sydney rush beat the Auckland defence, Garrett scoring for Williams to convert as the bell rang, the game thus ending: Sydney IS, Auckland 12. SATURDAY'S MATCHES. After such matches as have taken place in the Rugby competition this season, there should be a record crowd at Lancaster Park on Saturday, when tho final matches of the first round will be played. Chief interest will bo cfcntred in the Merivalc v. Old Boys match on tho oval. Both will field strong teams, and the result of the match should bo in doubt till the final whistle. Ok! Boys got home against Lihwood by a small margin last Saturday, and although Meiivale have been beaten' by the latter team, they have improved a great deal since.then, and should give, the Whites a very strenuous game. On the south ground 'Varsity play Christohurch. Although 'Varsity were badly beaten by Albion last Saturday, they were without tho help of some of their best players, and should they strike form on Saturday, Christchurch will have to play hard to win. Albion are down to play North Canterbury on tho west ground, and although, on their fine showing last Saturday, the Blacks. /Should win, a good even game should result.
