BUTCHERS' OVERTIME.
(MBSS ISSOCUTIOS TSLKiIUM.) GISBORNE, .Tunc 11. As a sequel to the alleged refuaal of the butchers employed at tho Tokoniaru Bay Freezing Works to work overtime on Febroaiy 28th unless paid double rates, 16 men were charged this morning at Tokomaru Bay with participating in a strike. The Inspect o " of Factoriea claimed £3 penalty from each. Tho inspector deposed that the men were asked to Work overtime to clean up a mob of fhecp. but declined to do eo unless paid double time, the award specifying time and a half. The ebecp hud been Bent back to the station. . After the manager of the works bad given evidence, the Inspector of Factories, who prosecuted, said that the witness had departed from his original statement. Under the circumstances bo could seo there was insufficient evidence to substantiate, the charge*. He asked for a non-suit, which was entered tip.
