PERSONAL.
(special to "the feess.") GREYMOUTH, Juno P. Mr Justice Alpers will conduct the West Coast sittings of the Supreme Court this month. Mr A. Clark, railway traffic officer, left this morning for Christchurch on transfer. Prior to his departure he -was entertained by his colleagues. Mr A. E. Firman, stationmaster, expressed the regret of the Department's officers at losing Mr Clark as a colleague. Mr K. A. Walker (loco, department) and Mr J. Pearson (station staff) and others also added their tribute to that of Mr Firman, who handed Mr Clark, on behalf of the railway officers, a razor and fountain pen. Messrs E. W. Waller and A. K. England arrived from Christchurch this afternoon. Mr Reuben Bell, of the Courthouse. Grcymouth, has received notice of transfer to Hokitika. The Tlon. W. H. Mclntyre, M.L.C., returned from Christchurch this afternoon. Mr A. R. Bates, president of the New Zealand Beekeepers' Association, left for Kaponga this morning. Mr .1. D. Murdoch, son of Mr J. A. Murdoch, of Hokitika, has passed tho second professional medical examination. Male Voice Cnoir. The first concert of the 1025 season was held to-night by the Qreyniouth Male Voice Choir. All of tho items were greatly appreciated by the very large audience. Miss Bessio Drake and Mr J. L. Tennent were the soloists. Messrs J. Hadland and W. Y. Harley and Y. Smith and Tennent sang duets, and Miss M. Parfitt gave a recitation. Mining Matters. At a meeting of the coalmining section of the Inangahua Miners' Union, i't, was decided to affiliate with the West Coast Miners' Council, and then with the United Mine Workers' Association. Mr D. McKanc, secretary, was elected delegate. League Football. The secretary of the West Coast Rugby League' has been advised that the following players have been selected for inclusion in the South Island team to play Canterbury' at Christchurch on Saturday:—B. Cust (Ruuanga), J. Dodds (Blackball)! J- Haisty (Blackball), N. Mouat (Marist), H. Mears (Marist), and T. M. O'llallahan (Marist). The Otago Rugby League has advised the West Coast Executive that it has decided to support the nomination of Mr J. D. Wingham as manager of tho team for Australia. All of the South Island Leagues arc now in favour of Mr Wingham's appointment. The New Zealand Council will make its decision in tho matter on Thursday evening. Tho Petone Club has decided to Bend its senior team to the West Coast this season to play the winners of the first' grade championship.. Bugby. At the weekly meeting of the Westland Sub-Union it was agreed to play a Ditman Shield match against Grey at Hokitika on Saturday. A letter was received from.the "West Coast Union advising that a representative fixture would be played at Hokitika either against Marlborough or- Golden Bay. All senior and junior matches set down for Saturday were postponed. Tho case of Smith, reported for rough play, was referred to the Judicial Committee. It was resolved that any juniors selected in a senior representative, team should not lose their junior j status. At the monthly meeting of the Westland Hospita} Board, Mr J. J. Breeze presiding, a letter was received from the Director-General of Hospitals, approving of the advance of £ISOO on account of subsidy, and stating that ap"proval would be given to the sale of hospital, buildings at Kumara and Boss. The resignation of Dr. Fishe: as medical officer at Kumara, was received and accepted. Three applications were received for the position, and it was resolved to recommend to the Kumara Medical Committee the appointment of Dr. Dorothy J. Booth, of Wellington. The resignation' of Nurse A. E. Berrill was received. The House Committee reported that drilling for water had been carried out with very successful results. It was resolved to thank the' Druids' Lodge and Mr J'. A. Murdoch for giving beds. Greymoutb. Harbour Board. , The monthly meeting of the Greymouth Harbour Board was held tonight. . Present—Messrs J. Steer (chairman), W. Leitch, D. Tennent, J. McLean, G. A. Perry, J. Kyall, and G. E. Perkins. The engineer's report advocated the eroction of an additional structure for use as a honey grading store at a cost of approximately £320. Tho matter was held over meanwhile. ' A letter was received from the District Bailway Engineer stating that he would be in Greymouth in three weeks when he would go into the matter of haulage of stone'over the railway bridge and the connexion of the lines over Cobden bridge with the railway system. It was resolved to 6end a letter of protest at, the delay, pointing out that it was one of the first results of the closing of the railway offices at Greymouth. It was resolved to support the representations of the Runanga Borough Council in favour of the provision of pensions for victims of infantile paralysis. The Harbours Association forwarded a legal opinion advising that wharfage may be charged on bunker coal, and fish taken on or unloaded from, trawlers. . , The salary of the secretary was increased by £SO per annum, and that'of the assistant-secretary by £25 per annum.
