Four Government gunboats appeared around Hc-Nnn Island, opposite Canton, and opened fire directly on the F.uud with full force. The mutinous Yunnanese troops answered with heavy fire from the shore.
The gunboats passed "Dutch Folly" Island, and then turned and came back, pouring a heavy fire from machine-guns and small cannon. They then disappeared around Ho-Nan. It is impossible to estimato the damago now, as the troops still have complete possession of the Bund. Ho-Nan Island was in complete darkness last night. Tho Yunnanese have probably severed all connexions crossing the river.
Eille fire from both sides of tho river continued almost incessantly for 40 hours.
