METHVEN A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The committee of tho Methven A. and P. Association met on Monday. Present: Mossr3 ];. jr. Lew (president), A. Geddes, H. J. Freeman, Goo. Kelly, Jas. Campbell,, E. A. Bland, J. H. Stone, R. X. Elliott, T. S. Harrison, John Watson, A. X. i-illey, E. Green, and C. Hale. Votes of sympathy were passed to Mcesrii Dalton and Campbell, and Airs E. M. Watson in their recent bcrcnvouiontß, \ .Mr Low reported that tho ploughing of the now show grounds had been satisfactorily done. Several improvements to fences, and gates had been arranged'for, and the committeo endorsed the Grounds Committee's action in having tho necessary work done. Several suggestions were advanced as to tKe best method of levelling and sowing down tho new show ground, and this was left i-> the Grounds Sub-committee to arrange. The question o£ tho Association making -use of its new show grounds in the immediate future was discussed and the notice of motion was tabled by Sir T. S. Harrison: "That the ground now owned by the A. and P. Association, be sold, and that the Association join in with, or come to an agreement, with, the Methven Racing Club as to holding its shcw3 on the racecourse in future."

Tho committee passed a hearty vote of thanks to Messrs Smallbono Bros., AshburTon, for ploughing the show grounds; also k> Mr A. K. Henderson - for bis action in vaiving his right to the lease of.the show grounds in favour cf the Association. Mr Green, on behalf of Mr John Dowling, presented to tho Association -a. hnndaomo challenpo shield for most .points in farm produce and live stcck. Tho Thomas Dowling Memorial Shield is to take tho place of the Memorial Cup, which was won outright at last show. Tho members of the committee expressed appreciation of tho valuable gtft, and a. vote of thanks was acccrded to Mr TVnvling. In view of th* vakmblo services rendered to the Association by Mr John Dowling, the' committee unanimously elected him a life member of tho Association. _

Tlio Ashburton A. and P. Association wrote advising that • they desired to vote the sum of two guineas towards tho ploughing match owing to their Association "deciding against holding a watch in Ashburtcn. Tho commit leo accented the donation with thanks. Mr R. J. Low reported on behalf of the delegates -appointed to the recent conference of ploughing match associations, and the delegate were- thanked for thoir work. Mr S. F/.Pawaon, business agent Kcw Zealand Railways, telegraphed his inability to meet tlio committee as arranged, owing to being detained at Akaroa, and that he would bo prepared to meet tho committee to discuss business matters at a date to be arranged later. . The Instructor in Agriculture forwarded particulars of tho farm school to be held on June 26th and 27th. Tho president urgefl members to give all possible Bupport to the school to help it to bo most instructive and secure a record attendance for both days. Tho committee, discussed tho draft schedule drawn up by the PlougEing Match Sub-committee and with sovaril minor alterations it was passed. The _ question of holding a dog trial in conjunction with the ( . ploughing match was discussed, and it was decided to make one event, heading, bringing back and holding in ring, open to maiden dogs owned' by residents in the Mt. Hu'tfc district."
