OBITUARY.
MR JOHN BUCHANAN. Mr John Buchanan, who died on May 31st, was a native of Lanarkshire, .Scotland, and was born in 18-30. He arrived in Lyttelton in 18"8 in the Northern Monarch and had lived i" Christ-church, over since. Ho was an ironmoukler l>v trade, and was first in the employ of Messrs P. and D. Duncan. Later he was foreman for Booth. Marclonald and Co.. Ltd.. and finally with the firm of his late brother, I?. Buchanan, of the City Foundry. He had lived in retirement- for the last nine years. He was a foundation member of the Ironmoulders' Union, and held office up to-the time of his death, being a co-trustee. He was also a diai tor member of the Perseverance Lodge of Druids. Mr Buchanan was a pioneer in the No-License movement in •Sydenham *"'th the late Mr T. K. Taylor, M.P.. and was an enthusiastic member of the Liinvood Bowling Club for many years. H« was a member of the Sydenham Baptist Church for 20 years and subsequently of th? Terrace Church. He was twice married and leaves a widow and grown-up family to mourn their loss. The funeral, which took place at the Addington Cemetery, was largely attended, the service at the graveside being conducted bv the Revs. J. J. North and A. AY. Stewart. The (leatli occurred last week of Mr John William Gittos, a highly-respected legal practitioner of Auckland. Deceased was the eldest, son of the late Kcv. W. Gittos, on? of the early missionary clergymen of the Auckland district. Mr Gittos was born in the Kaipara district in 1862, and was educated at the Auckland Grammar School. After leaving school he was articled to Mr \V. Thorne, solicitor, and remained with him for twelve years, duriug which period Mr Gittos was admitted to practice as a barrister and solicitor. He commenced practice on his own account in 1893, and «at the time o£ his death was senior member of the firm of Messrs Gittos, Uren, Gregory and Bourke. Deceased was very fond of mountaineering, and took a great interest in the Tongariro National Park. Another favourite pastime' was yachting, and some years ago he was 'prominent in swimming circles in Auckland A Sydney cable announces the death of- Mr G. L. Goodman, .theatrical manager.
An Auckland telegram announces the death of Mr W. F. Harrop, a prominent business man, at the age of 56 years.
