I Acceptances for the Asliburton Trotting Club's Winter Meeting are due at 5 p.m. to-day. I Acceptances for the "Waimate Trotting Club's Inaugural Meeting are due on Thursday. PViday is the day set down for th? closing of nominations for most of the Dominion's classic races. The clubs concerned are tho Canterbury Jockey Club, Auckland Hoeing Club, Duneriin Jockey Club, Ayondalo Jockey Club. Hawke's Bay Jockey Club, Mauawatu Racing Club, Wanganui Jockey Club. Taranaki Jockey Club, and Takapuna Jockey Club. Nominations for the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club's Winter Meeting and th.» Hawke's Bay Hunt Winter Meeting close on Friday. F. E. Jones will probably leave Wei lington for Sydney on tho 19th inst. to rido Pilliewinkie and Many Kittle in their engagements. H. Nurse, R, Longley, W. G. Hobbs, and A. E. Wormald returned to Kiccarton from Dunedin with thoir teams last night. Golden Prince knocked himself about rather badly when he stifled the post and rails in the Wingatui Steeplechase and may not race again this season. Adjutor broke down during the race for the Otago Hurdle Handicap, but though still lame, had made good progress towards recovery by the end of the week. Camel Amble was cast in his box afc Wingatui on Friday and had to forego lus engagement in the Taiori Handicap on Saturday.- He was pretty lame, but has made considerable improvement during the past couplo of days. The two-year-old Paper Money filly Circulation, who met with an accidfr-nt some time ago, is still running in the paddock. Tho effects of the mishap have almost disappeared, and sho should be on hand to contest some of the spring classics. The taxes to be paid by tho Dunedin Jockey Club over its winter fixture last week'amount to £6852 19s 6d, macb lip as follows:—Totalisator tax £'2'2l3 Os 6d, dividend tax £3984 Is, stakes tax £372 10s, receipts tax £9O 17s 3d. and amusements tax £192 10s 9d. In the handicaps for the Asliburton Trotting Club's Winter Meeting, published vesterday, the name of Betty Logan in the Trial Handicap should be Biddy Logan, and in the Acton Handicap Erin's Child should be Airan Chief, The consideration shown by the starter towards Francaise on each day's racing at Wingatui came in for some adverse comment. And it was not without reason. If her conduct at the Ibarrier at the meeting mentioned is the rule with her at other meetings, it is safe to say that her nomination would be refused at most courses out-, side Otago and Southland. > Apart from this; Mi- Mclvor's work throughout the meeting was high-class. The stakes at the Dunedin Jockey Club's Winter Meeting wore fairly well distributed, the winniiig payments being as follows:—L. C. Hazlett £lll7 10s, H. Datnpier-Crossley £612 10s, W. T Hazlett £507 10s, n J. M. Samson £SOO, Cecil Hazlett £492 10s, G, T. Smith £455, E. M. Bubs £350^ A. H, Kiug £340, H. C. Mountney £2(O, A. S Cambridge £245, J- L. Haniion £237 10*; W. The returns in the metro-, politan, area are considerably larger than those of the previous season, but much of the increase is due to the fact that there were eight extra days racing in tho country districts. Blue Hall was first . over the , initial obstacle, and passing the stand the first, time the order was Bourn, Maniahera, Blue Hall, and Lady Cojnet, with Vociferate, who hit tho first fence on top of the. hill,; tailing the field... Blue. Hall fell at theback, and Bourn went on to win easily by ', six:- lengths from! Ladj Comet, who just beat the tiring 'Maniahera by a neck. A. McMullan, the rider of Jtaniahera;, was advised by the stewards his rnount out, but Maniahera, was very tired. Cureaform .was mads favourjte of the: thirteen- starters* in.ftfe Qrakei Hlirdje Race, and she duly pulled her backers thrpugth, after a good' contest over the concluding part of tho journey. Peter Maxwell was the early leader, and passing the stand he was 1 showing the way to Rippling and Irish Jig.. Arch Amie wcb fourth, and Dolefnl Ditty fifth. All the horses carded went to the post for thp Winter Steeplechase. Sir Roseberry was made a pronounced favpurite, but he wa** at no stage dapgerous, his II 13 tolling a tale in the heavy going.
