Adverso comments were passed at the meeting of the Waimate branch of the Farmers' Union upon the propagaJßd* now appearing in the newspapers ia regard to growing wheat this year. It was argued that the position of the farmers was not truly stated in the papain, sad the public were likely, should a shortage of wheat be experienced this year. to blame the farmer. It was contended that tho public would remark that the farmer, althpugh he had got his prke for whoat fixed, refused to_ grow it. Farmers present at the meeting were of opinion that the priee was arranged too late this year to allow of wheat being planted in time for the present season, and there must be a aaortage, which, however, would not be den to the farmers. They had not had time to prepare the ground. Eventually the following motion, proposed by Mr Bailey, waa earned; — meeting of the latawrs* Union takes exception to the notices appearing in the newspapers appealing to fafcnjers to grow wheat,.io that »t» impossible at this late period of fixture of prices to prepare land fo* wheat tha year, although farmers will laaka ewry effort to increase tho am."**
