3IEETING OP COMMITTEE. Tho General Committee of the Courtcnay A. and P. Association met on Saturday. Present—Tho president (Mr D. Gallagher), and Messrs G. T. Robertson, M. E. Jenkins, K. Murchieon, F. Westaway, M. Johnson, A. Duthie, V. C. Bedford, A. Robertson, A. "W. Colee, Austin Colee, R. McClelland, P. Boulnois, J. AV. AYoodhouse, J. H. Selby, N. Kelly, H. Roper, R. AV. Wilson, tho surer (Mr J. W. Belgrave), and tho secretary (Mr R. E. Belgrave). Apologies were received and accepted from Messrs C. 11. Adams, R, Colee, W. A. 'Wilson, D. Kellv, F. G. Sowden, A. Hart, and J. AY. D. Ha{l. Before proceeding with the business, tho president referred to tho death of Mr AV. F. Massey, and spoke ,of the good work done by him, and the lose which the Dominion had sustained by his death. A motion of sympathy was passed with Mrs Mnssey and family in their bereavement. Votes of sympathy were also passed with Mr E. E. Jenkins, who had recentlv lost ft son, with Mr and Mrs T. Gough, in tho death of the lattev's sister, and with the relatives of the iate Mrs W. "Watson. The president congratulaed the 6ecrotary on his recent marriage, and expressed a hope that Mr and Mrs Belgrave would enjoy a long and happy life together. On behalf of the committee, he asked Mr Belgrave to accept a silver-mounted oak tray and a. sknvinsr outfit, with the best wishes of the committee. Mr Belgravo suitably replied. The resignation of Mr F. H. Musgrove was received and accepted. A tender was received from Mr N. Peat for silver pine and cedar posts for tho sheepyards. The matter was referred to the Ground Committee. Correspondence was received from the Traffic Manager's office, with regard to tho Association's request that Rolleston be made a stopping place for the first exprese, stating that the matter would be considered, and <i reply sent in due course. The " Chamber of Commerce WTote with regard to the sams matter, and asked how many napsengers would be likely to journey from Rolleston daily. It was decided .to point out that as Rolleston had never been a stopping place for the express it was impossible to say how many passengers would travel from there, and also, to point out that the express was not expected to stop daily, but only when required. It was decided to guarantee £lO a year to the Malvern Power Board for hall and office. • j A comprehensive report of the judging of , tfie' recent field roots, competition was received from Mr F. E. Ward, and a -vote of J thanks was accorded him for his very valuable and interesting report. ■-- Mr R. Morgan wrote offering a prize for tractor ploughing. The matter was referred to the Co.urtenay-Papa.rua Ploughing Match Committee. A lease of.the Show Grounds was granted to Mr A. Robertson -under the same conditions as last year. The Ground Committee wns empowered to deal with the question of the removal of certain tiees. It. was resolved to ask the Christchurch daily papers to give' itkto frequent quotations of the prices obtained for-wheat in the Australian wheat markets. Mr J. W. Woodliouße was appointed to represent the local Association at.tho Can-, terbury A. and P. meetings. It was decided to write to tho Prime Minister, pointing out the hardship which would bo inflicted on traction engine owners if tho proposed tax is imposed. It was agreed to invite Mr L. Paynter, Government Orchard Instructor, to give a pruning demonstration in Mr H. Roper's orchard at an early date, and also to ask Mr Kerrigan to give ft veterinary, lecture in the evening. The president and secretary were empowered to allot the prizes for the field roots competition. ' In accordance with a notice of motion, Mr K. Murchison moved that all pow-presi-dents be ex officio members of the committee. The motion was carried, but will have to be confirmed at two general meetings. The revision of the soheaule was then pro-, oeided with, and various alterations and additions were made. ' The ladies who had been asked to suggest alterations in the produce section sent in . a report, which was partially adopted. It was decided to add a class in the grain .and seed section for the best collection of grasses, etc, with comments oh the uses of the same, the collection to be made by school children...
