(87 CABLK-KES3 ABSOCIATIOII-COr*S lOHT - ) UUOTBB'B mligbavs.) LONDON, J'" l6 3 - Travellers from Barcelona state that the police discovered an electric bomo weighing SO kilograms, near Barcelona, which was intended 'to blow up the lioval train in a tunnel on June 4th, when their Spanish Majesties left for Madrid. - Fourteen students and workmen, described as Separatists, members of the Catalan Extremist Society, aro stated to have been arrested, but the authorities deny all knowledge of thi> alleged P lot - The censor is said to have forbidden publication of any news of the affair. The Central News correspondent at Perpignart sajjs that the bomb m Sitjes tunnel had the most ingenious electrical connexions. Elaborate instructions have also bee-i discovered. It transpires that a. few aays ago an attempt was made to blow up the Palace of the Marquis Castuabelo, at Barcelona, where the King and Queen were visiting. A bomb exploded in front of the palace after the Royal visit, but no one was hurt, though much damage was done. It is also reported that a bomb was found in Barcelona, Cathedral just before Kinp; Alfonso attended Mass.
FORTUNATE ESCAPES. (AUSTRALIAN AHD V.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.) (Received June 7th, 5.5 p.m.) MADRID, June 6. Further parties of travellers confirm the previous accounts of the attempt on the Royal train, which it appears was due to start for Madrid from Barcelona when the bomb was discovered. Their Majesties postponed their departuro and remain at Barcelona. It is reported that a bomb was found in Barcelona Cathedral a few minutes before tho Mass which King Alfonso attended. Four priests have been arrested. Their Majesties" narrowly escaped death while motoring on -the outskirts of Barcelona. A motor-car containing secret police was leading the Royal procession and crashed into an electric train at a level crossing. One policeman was killed, and four were injured critically. The Royal car avoided tho crash by inches.
