STAFF GIVES NOTICE.
POWER-HOUSE MEN DISSATISFIED. (special to "the press.") KAIKOURA. June 6. Recently the Kaikoura Power-House assistants applied to be included under the Ship Engineers' Award, but the application was' refused by the Court On Friday the whole of the staff, sent in their resignations, including the electrical engineer. (Mr K. B. Girling). Tho action of the men in giving 6even days' notice cannot, of course, be stated to be a strike, but it must be conceded that an attempt has been made to disorganise the electric lighting service. The engineer gave one month's-ncti'.:e in accordance with the conditions of his contract, giving as his reason that he had not the confidence of the Council. It is stated that the Council has not at any time expressed any such opinion. The Electric Light Couinr.itec were given authority to secure a new staff, and volunteers have already offered to run the plant in the event of capable men not bein£ secured within thejsliort period available. '
