AN APPEAL FOR NEEDY GENTLEWOMEN.
to TH* aurros o* "ran IW** Sir,—Apropos of a paragraph in yotw paper a few days ago stating that money is plentiful in Sow Zealand a» the present time. I am taking this opportunity to put forth an appeal on be* naif of n certain section of the community who are unablo to help tnaa** selvc*, and whom no one seems to remember at all. I refer to the middJeagod and elderly educated women who spent the best part c f their young hx«s helping the mothers of the present »oeiation to educate and bung up WW families. Salaries wore small in tnoio days, and what they managed to am i* a mere pittance compared to vbihii necessary", even to exist, in these*!!*. It is not to the credit of the MM that the claims of those who MjHM|« well in their youth should, «*****•* age, tie overlooked in «*W of W younger people. ' . * Surely there arc people in otrit- <*»• munity* wealthy and gonerona «M«sk, if tlte need wef« brought beta* ; tliwu to lav the foundation of a fnod fiw a»sistin'g such and bringing tbtir iwwsna* up to a living standard. I feel ante » oitl* needs some influontialffttaoa, or body of persons, to take ttteraea sq> ana the appeal would be responded to mm the fund would be added to ftoa» tt*» * to time. , Trusting that some awl j generous person will read this.—TfflMf» et ° M FAIRPLAT.
