DUNEDIN DISPUTE. (PBESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) DUNEDIN, May 1. A dispute in connexion with the loading of sand ballast in the Commonwealth and Dominion Line steamer Port Augusta arose this afternoon between the men engaged in operations and the local agents. The Port Augusta arrived on Thursday mornin'g from New Itork, via northern porta, to discharge 4GO tons of general freight and to take in about 600 tons of sand ballast before proceeding to Port Kembla. The inward cargo was unloaded on Thursday afternoon, and a gang of waterside workers commenced to load ballast last evening. Another three gangs were put on to-day, and work proceeded without a hitch until 3.30 p.r hen the men intimated that they wa an extra rate for such work, and as no agreement was com© to between them and the agents, ceased operations. The matter has been referred to the local Disputes Committee. In the meantime the Port Augusta is lying idle, and unless agreement can be reached in the morning, the vessel probably will be detained in port over the week-end.
