MAY DAY CELEBRATIONS.

. * ♦ MEETING IN TJRADES HALL.

Last evening the Trades Hall .was packed to the doors when May Day was celebrated, and addresses were given by the Mayor-elect, Mr J. ;K. Archer, ' and prominent Labour leaden.

Mr L. Efiord presided, that they let-'May Day pass without celebrarng the advance of the . cause of the workers. He gave-a short history of the origin and meaning'of May Day, ifter which the gathering rose ■ and sang with • vim '' The Red Flag." On entering the hall, Mr and Mrs Archer were loudly applauded and cheered.

Short addresses were given by-the Mayor•elect (Mr J. K. Archer), the Revs, J. H. G. Chappie and Clyde, Carr,' Messrs R. Macfarlane, P..C. Webb, P. Cooke, E. J. Howard, M.P., H. T. Armstrong, M.P, and 8. -Fournier. At the conclusion of the addresses the following resolution was carried:—"We, representing theworfeers of Ohrißtchurch, in this May Day celebration assembled, send fraternal greetings to the workers of- all lands, particularly of Japan, and dedicate ourselves anew to the struggle against the worldwide exploitation of capitalist Imperialism, and to the work of not merely extending the sphere of the eight-hour day, but of replacing the entire - wage system by. international Socialism. ' Away with the exploitation of man by 'man. Long live the* international fraternity of all workers! -Long live the economic and political federation of a socialised humanity 1" During the evening a short programme of musical and elocutionary item's was given.
