Nominations for the Dunedin Jockey Club's Winter Meeting close at o p.m. to-day. Acceptances for the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club's Autumn Meeting are due to-day. Acceptances for the Forbury Park Trotting Club's "Winter Meeting close at o p.m. to-day. Nominations for the North Canterbury Racing Club's Autumn Meeting close with the secretary at Rangiora at 8 p.m. to-day. Nominations for the Wanganui Jockey Club's 'Winter Meeting close on Monday. Acceptances for the Forbury Park T.C.'s Winter Meeting close to-day at 5 p.m. Acceptances for the Nelson T.C.'s Autumn Meeting close to-day at S p.m. Nominations for the Oamaru T.C.'s Autumn Meeting close on Monday at 8 p.m. A special train will leave Christchurch this morning at T.oo for Washdyke in connexion with tlie South Canterbury Jockey Club's Autumn Meeting. The fields at Timaru to-day are good, numerically and class is also fairly well represented. Of the llicearton quota in the Tekapo Hurdles Grim Joke and Red Kriss will have most friends, but they are not the only starters. If Royal Star could be induced to jump cleanly there would not bo much need to look further for the winner. The West Coaster, Lord Ashlea, is a fair juniper and may go well, as should San Salvador. Rich Prize will dominate the betting market for the Gladstone Hack Handicap, but if Enare is started in this race in preference to the Doncaster Welter, Riccarton will have a good second string. Coch-y-bondhu is a good beginner but may find a mile just a trifle too far for her. Another Southerner, Mountain Rose, should race prominently. Consequent upon the big field that is likely to go to the post for the Electric Stakes a good beginning will be a big factor in winning. The two-year-old, Passing Hour, should have benefited by her experience at llicearton, and may do better in the oompany she will meet at Timaru. Gold Brick, Hidden Mystery, Laughie, and Fairy Herald are others in the field that have been prominent in some of their earlier engagements tills season. Though the Timaru Cup lias only drawn final payments for six horses, the field lacks little in point of class. The top-weight. Mountain Lioh, has been wonderfully consistent this season, and cannot be left out with all his weight. Tarleton seemed a trifle unlucky not to be in the money at Riccarton, and with a small field may improve on his form there. Kilfanc won well at Riverton, and apparently has struck form again, and is well placed at 8 9, as is Ravenna at 8 1. The latter has only been once out of a place in her last seven starts, and, with Tarleton and Mountain Lion will probably have a'more solid-following than the remaining three. Sunny Loch's form has not been good enough lately to give him a chance at, a mile and a quarter, but the fact that" he is a- really good horse when at his bes£ will no doubt cause him to carry a reasonable proportion of the pool. Dancing Days does not stay well," but with the minimum, 6 7. may run on better than when tackling a shorter course under a big weight.

Gay Juliet after he r good work at the recent Autumn Meeting at Riccarton may be the elect of backers in the Snuthfield Handicap, but she is meeting a very useful field, and .the race bears a very open appearance. Sun L T p, Songbird, Los Ambus, The Harp, and Lava will all have friends and a good dividend will be paid by whatever wins the. race. Palcneia and Charlatan are the only runners in the Otipua Steeplechase that hare any recent form to recommend them, and there should be a good contest between tho pair. In the event of accidents, "Whipcord and Golden Prince may- prove the best of tho remainder. They are both fine jumpers, but neither has raced for some time, and may not be seen at their best till later in the season.

Retrospect has been working nicely at Ricearton and ahotild race well iu the Rosewill Hjack Handicap. Her strongest opposition may come from Kilris, Mountain Rose (if started), Goldspinner, and Prompter. ■ Among the many useful horses engaged in the Doncaster Welter, Barn Owl, Dutch Courage, Warhaven, Prince Charleroi, Kilbarry, and Castellan will carry the confidence of their connex? ions. Enare and Happy Days may also be started and thev should assist in making the race a fitting termination to the day's proceedings. ~Sir J. D. Connelly, formerly AgentGeneral for West Australia, purchased at the Newmarket sales for 2100 guineas, the St. Leger candidate Karagan. A Hastings message says—J. M. Cameron states "that The Hawk, if nothing unforeseen occurs, is a sure starter in the Ofniond' Memorial Cup on the second day of the Hawke's Bay races.

The necessity for a curate in the district was mentioned by the vicar, who 6tated that oil'account of the district being so large it was impossible for a vicar to visit each separate one individually, and the assistance of a curate wis necessary in the interests of the. parish. A deaconess would also be of great assistance. However, it was a matter for the parishioners to decide. After a considerable amount of discussion it was decided that it be a recommendation to the vestry to go into the question of the appointment of a, -curate, and also a deaconess, and that they take steps to ascertain what financial assistance towards the salary could bo wanted from the country districts.;

Gloaming left last night to contest the two classic events at the Hawke's Ear Jockey Club's* Autumn Meeting. It appears as if the opposition to the champion will be very weak in the Hawke's Bay Stakes, and after Gloaming's brilliant gallop over six furlongs at Riecarton on Tuesday it is evident that he it not far from being at his best. There is no doubt that The Hawk is a brilliant iniler, but in the Ormond Memorial Gold Cup he will have to run right up to his best form~to have a chance of downing the son of The "Welkin. Letter of Credit, winner of the Juvenile Handicap at Hamilton on Tuesday, is the seventh by the young English-bred sire. Paper Money, to get bis name on the winning list. This sire's other winning representatives in this, his first season, are Overdrawn, Circulation, Cyreue, John Bradbury, Money Order, and Victory Bond, while, of the few others that Live raced so far. Bank Draft, Father O'Flynn. and Waterlow have run into places. Paper Money's" total on the winning sires' list for the season is upwards of £3BOO and his early success should ensure fairly busy times in the next few seasous to conio.
