SIX PEOPLE BURNED
(BT CABLE— riJESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT.) (AUSTRALIAN AND X.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.)
SYDNEY. April 30.
A sensational incident occurred on the Sydney Show Ground, in connexion with the Police Carnival. One of the acts in the play, "Wild Life in Australia," depicts a descent of the Ned Kelly gang, resplendent qs bushrangers, upon the Glenrowau Inn, represented by a small hessian hut.
Five couples dancing inside the inn should have rushed out when the bushrangers arrived, and then the hut should have burst into flames. Canvas along the bottom of the hut had been saturated with petrol, and a fourgajlon tin was standing in the doorway. Aa the bushrangers galloped up, firing a fusillade of blank cartridges, a horse upset the petrol tin, which caught alight. Instantly the' hut was a mass of ilames, enveloping the dancers, who struggled through a narrow doorway with their hair and clothes afire. Some collapsed outside. Six were burned severely and removed to hospital. It was a scene of great excitement. TheFO were 30,000 spectators when the accident occurred. (Received April 30th, 11.25 p.m.) All the victims of the fire are now out of danger.
