MOTOR-CYCLING.

NOTES. "The Motor-cycle Manual," a copy of which has been sent to the "Press" office, is one of the most informative books, in a compact form, dealing with motor-cycles generally and the art of driving them, that has yet appeared. Briefly, it shows how to choose a machine, how to ride it, and how to maintain it in working order, and is written in simple language. As nearly as possible it covers the whole field of the subject and to the beginner should prove indispensable. The expert rider will also find it a very handy book of reference. The profusion of illustrations is a notable feature of the book. According to the newspaper reports the Harley-Davidson practically swept the board at the Fielding Motor Club Motor Cycle Race Meeting at Fielding on Wednesday, April 22nd. The New Zealand Heavy Weight Championship went to the idol of the meeting, Percy Coleman, and his victory was unanimously acclaimed by. a large ■ gathering. S. G. Stratton on a Harley came in "second in the New Zealand Heavy Weigbt Championship, and D. C. Managh on an Indian came in third, and N. McCready on a Har-ley-Davidson fourth. Percy Coleman who was in rare, form, also came in second in the Oroua Handicap of 6 laps and first in the Kowhai Park Handicap of 8 laps. In this latter he was pursued by S. G. Stratton, also on a Harley, who secured second, place. McCready was not to be denied 1 of a place in the meeting, securing third place in the Consolation Handicap of 6 laps.
