SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION. The Canterbury School Committees' Association met last night, -Mr W; G. Chapman presiding. The secretary of ile View Hill School Committeo wrote stating that the committee was unanimous against raising the school ago to 16 years for country schools. The secretary of the Ataahua Committee also wrote regarding the suggestion that the school age should bo raised to 16 years. The letter stated that, aj a meeting of householders, it had been decided that, while it was desirable that children should- attend school until the age of 16 years, it did not think'it advisable that'it should be made compulsory for them to attend till they were that age. The delegate from the Opawa Committee said toat the secretary of his committee had been instructed to write stating that the Opawa residents were not •in favour of the suggestion that the age be raised to 16 years. The letters were received. It was decided to invite Mr W. Brock, senior school inspector, to give an explanation of the working of the junior high schools at the annual meeting of the Association. It was resolved to suggest .to the taaterbury Education Board that provision be made on the committee election forms for the name and address- of tho nominee and nominator.
