PROPOSED LONDONHIGHLAND CLUB.

ROYAL INTEREST IN THE \ MOVEMENT.

(FROM OUB OWH COSSBSPONDEHT.)

LONDON, March 25.

H.R.H. Princess Louise, Duchess ; of; Argyll, the MacKintosh of MacKintosh, General Sir lan Hamilton, Sir Alexander Grant, Bt., and a number of other Scottish notable people, are giving their support to a new movement among Scots in London for the foundation of a Scottish Club in the Metropolis. The promoters, who have already ■ tested the need for such an institution by holding weekly meetings, arc endeavouring to raise £SOOO as the initial minimum capital for a suitably-equipped; club. In their appeal to Scotsmen at home and abroad, the Executive Committee say that there is a crying need in London for some such permanent rallying point for their scattered compatriots, whether residents or. visitors. "We believe that the old clan spirit is still alive in the hearts of Scottish men and women wherever they may be scattered. In that faith we have decided to appeal for the sympathy and support of all who love Scotland and desire, wherever possible, the preservation of our national character and traditions." ..

The London Highland . Club was inaugurated in October, 1923, with the object of becoming a central organisation for the social welfare of Scots men and women in London. It was a courageous venture of a little group of exiled Scots without money and without influence. It is non-political and non-sectarian. So far the meetings have been held in a Presbyterian Church Hall, but it has grown out of the premises.

The appeal is supported by—in addition to those already mentioned: The Lady Seaforth, Miss of Tnvercauld, Cameron of Lochiel, Viscount Leverhulme, Lord Glendyne of Sanquhar, Lord Dewar, Major-General Sir J. Burnett-Stuart, Sir Alexander Grant, Bt., Sir Harry Lauder, the Eev. Archibald Fleming, D.D, the Kev. B. C. Gillie, D.C.L., and other eminent people. Mr Angus Clark ia the president, and the present headquarters are at the Marylebone Presbyterian Church House, 38 Upper George street, Edgware road.
