W.E.A. ACTIVITIES.

At Kaiapoi to-night, in. connexion with the W.E.A. class there, Mr E. J. Howard, M.P., ■will give a public lecture on the Zimbabwe ruins, which will bo illustrated with a number of lantern slides.

Tho annual meeting of the Timaru local committee of the W.E.A. 'was held last Saturday, Mr James Emslie being: elected chairman for the ensuing year. At the close of the ordinary business, Mr G. Manning, secretary of tho W.E.A., gave an account of tho Dominion conference and dealt also with the proposals which ara to be the basis of tho new constitution. Mr Manning was thanked for his attendance and for his interesting report on the movement throughout New Zealand.

A public meeting was held in Temuka last Friday for tho purpose of discussing the formation of a W.E.A. clasa in that town. Tho Mayor (Mr T. Gunnion) presided, and in extending a welcome to Mr D. B. Kemshed, M.A., of Timaru, and Mr G. Manning, secretary of tho W.E.A., said that tho movement was one of the best that could be established in any oommunity. Messrs Kemslied and Manning addressed the meeting, and it was decided to form a class in English literature. Mr Kemsbed being appointed tutor. The first meeting of the class is to be held to-morrow evening. It is estimated that about twenty students will join it.
