LAND AGENT'S LICENSE.

♦ OBJECTION TO RENEWAL. Tlie Canterbury Land, Agents' Association lias raised an objection to the application of H. H. Cook, for the renewal of his license as a land agent.

The application came before Mr H. Y. Widdowson, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court yesterday. Mr J. J. Dougall appeared for tho applicant and Mr C. S. Thomas for tho Association.

Mr Dougall said that counsel who had been briefed to take the case could not appear, and as ho (the speaker) had taken it on at short notice he> did not feel in a position to carry on with it, and applied for an adjournment. Mr Thomas objected to an adjournment, as he considered it was not a genuine application. The same sort of thing had happened with Mr Munns. Counsel had had to leave a case in Temuka to take the case and without any warning he was informed that counsel on the other side desired an adjournment. He was not told that an adjournment was wanted when he spoke to counsel for the other side at 9.45 a.m. that day. Mr Dougall said that he had only case the. previous night. The Magistrate pointed out that there was a rule which stated that if the license were not renewed by May Ist the Minister would take the licensee's name off tho roll. An adjournment was granted until May sth on the terms that the applicant pay full adjournment costs.
