HEATHCOTE NEWS.
♦ - Tennis Meeting. A general meeting of the Tennis Club •was held on Monday evening, Mr C. Flavell presiding over an attendance of--16 members. A letter was received from Mr A. Lyse thanking members of tho club who Had rendered such valuable assistance, to his property in the recent fire, and forwarding 1 a, donation of y £2. It was decided to thank Mr Lyse and to utilise the money to purchase two trophies to ho called tho "Lyso trophies," for competition during tho coming season. It was resolved to express sympathy with Mr J. Meek, an ex-member of the club, in Ids loss in the fire which occurred on his people's property. The ciub approved o£ tho last season's team having its photo taken. It was do cided to hold a social function in the form of a danco. A committee, with Mr K. Loney as secretary, was set up to conduct The club rules, as drawn up by tho committee, wero read. It was decided to leave over tho rules relating to subscription and to purchaso of balls until the annual meeting. Tho remainder of the rules, excepting for ono or two amendments, were adopted. Householders' Meeting.
Tho annual meeting of householders in connexion with the local school waa held on Monday evening. Mr W. Rodcliffo ' presided over a very fair attendance. Tho bal-ance-sheet, as audited by tho Education Board's auditor, showed a credit of £l6 9s 7d. Tho annu.il report stated that the year had not Iseen a good one. The attendance had fallen off, causing the school to go down a grade, which necessitated a red' lo ; tion in the teaching etaff. Tho school had also lost a mo3t loyal worker in the late Mr R. Shrimpton. Votes of thanks wero passed to the outgoing coramitteer and to the Btsff for their efforts during the year. Only peven nominations wero received lor tho committeo, and tho following were declared dullv elected:-Messrs J McVinme, TV. Radclifte, H. Jackson, G. Gable, \\. Cogle, T. Perkins, W. Johnston. At n, subsequent committee meeting Mr Radcliffe was elected chairman, and Mr Cogle secretary.
Parishioners' Meeting. At the forthcoming parishioners' meeting in connexion with St. Marys Church, among other business to bo brought forward will ba the suggestion to remove the old cfiurch on tho hillside to tho site next to tho Sunday School The little chvtrch is ono of the oldest in Canterbury, and has stood in its present position for fco years.
