TO THE BDHOK OF "THE PBZSS." Sir, —Beading reports of the Christchurch Hospital .Board, I noticed it is said that there have been no changes except in the wages of the cook at the Fresh Air Home, from £2 15s to £2 2s a week. MakiDg enquiries. I find the day workers at the -Fresh Air Home, instead of working seven days arc reduced to three days a week. Is it not a fact also that at the top sanatorium the porters got orders to wash patients' dishes, instead of leaving that to afternoon women workers, and that the porters would not do that, and left? Now, the Board Bay that there is no award, so they pay Is 3d an hour. Does that apply to women workers? I understand they get 9s a day. Their time is as follows: The Sanatorium bus leaves Sydenham at S a.m., and returns at 4.50 p.m. On' Sunday it leaves at 9.15 a.m., and returns at 2.45 p.m. They must therefore work 52 hours a week.
Now. there might not be an award, but there must a law for these women who are on the staff, as anyone on the Hospital Board knows that these women cannot work under those conditions for anv length of time.—Tours, etc.. INTERESTED^ April 25th.
