COUNTY COUNCILS.

KOWAI. At the monthly meeting of the Kowai County Council, held at Balcairn, there were present: Crs. J. D. Wyllie (chairman), J.. Fleming, T. Retallick, J. Douds, J. H. James, I. F. Croft. A letter of sympathy from the Council was sent to Mrs Massey expressing the. Council's sympathy with Mr Massey in his illness and hoping that he may be speedily, restored, to health. A letter was received from the Amberley Town Bond regarding street lamps requesting the Council to transfer three lights to replace the lights cut off. The Council de-. cided that it -could not ace its way clear to. comply with the fequeat, but was prepared to liven up the lighta cut off, for tho winter months, or any specified period at the usual charge for street lamps. The engineer's report was read and confirmed. , ; , The chairman reported on the Highway. Board's meeting; also on the engineer's inspection of Gray's road and Tobin's road bridge sites, and Lyttelton Harbour. It was decided to. serve . notices to clear coxae from their frontages on several ratepayers. An application from the Sefton Public Library, requesting exemption from payment of rates, was granted.
