Seamen's Institute. The Sumner Ladies' Guild gave the weekly concert at the Seamen's Institute on Thursday evening. Tho crews of tho oversea vessels were present in large numbers. Items were contributed as follows: —Pianoforte solo, Mrs Benton; songs, Mies Buxton; duete, Mrs Bnd ITiss Buxton; monologues, Mjss Martin; songs, Mr Connor, Supper was provided at the close of the concert. Mosdames Merry, Baker, Itoswcll, and others were present. West Lyttelton School.
The annual meeting of householders of the West Lyttelton School, held last night, was poorly attended. Mr F. J. Page presided.
The chairman stated that the committee had not been successful during the year in the efforts to get the Education Board to enlarge standards 5 and 6 daes-reom, but the Board had renovated the school. The building had been painted out, and' the class-rooms were now in good order. The Board had also provided dual desks for the senior pupils, and regulation tables and chairs for the infants. _> porch had" been converted • into ac office for the headmaster. The committee's financial position was satisfactory, there being a credit balance in the bank. A vote of thanks was passed to .the teaching staff for their work during the year, especially during the epidemic period. It was deoided. to have gas installed in the school for: the convenience of the teaching staff. The following committee was elected:— Messrs F. J. Page; E. J. Hoist, W. A Miller, A. 1.. Guy, •A. H. ■ Fletcher, H. S. Derbridge, and G. Brooks. Mr F. 3. Page was elected chairman and Mr E. J. Hoist secretary.' ... ,
Lyttelton D.H. School. The annual meeting ' of. householders was held at the Lyttelton District High School last evening, the Mayor (Mr W. T. Lester) presiding over a email attendance. The secretary's report stated, that the incidental account >showed a- credit- balance of £ll 15s 7d and the prize and picnio fund a credit of' £424 12a. . This latter amount was the balance of the Queen Carnival.fund and was lodged in the' Post Office Savings Bank. The'report men' Honed the success of the committee alter some years of endeavour, 1 in obtaining the gaol site for a playground, during the year; ' The-, outstanding event of the year had -been •*the : jubilee celebrations of the opening of the school.; The committee had to thank the' Jubilee Committee, especially thel chairman, *ir W. T. Foster,, and- secretary,' Mr D. : -Loader, for the successful carrying out of the' celebrations. The committee had been working, during the year, to have established; at' Lyttelton a>dental clinic for school children'.'lt was found, however, that;a suras could not be obtained this year, and no doubt the incoming committee would be more: successThe headmaster's report' mentioned , that there had been a considerable diminution of the roll number, owing to the removal of families from thlTport and:other causes.: Tie school had just been able to maintain its present status. .''"... A hearty vote of thanks was passed; to Mr J. McCombs M.P.j for- his' services in securing the gaoli site for the. school. a. hearty vote of thanks was passed tc> Mr ;J.
