THE DOMINION.
* EARL JELLICOE'S TRIBUTE,
PRIME MINISTER'S ILLNESS
IBT CABLE—TRESS ASSOCIATION— COrTBIGBT.) TELEGEAUS.)
LONDON", April 22
Karl Jellicoc was entertained by the Colonial Institute at tho Grocers' Hall in one of the largest functions of recent years, the company including a representative of the Colonial Secretary. Mr L. S. M. Amerv, the Hon. W. OrmsbyGore, Under-Secretary, and the High Commissioner for New Zealand, Sir James Allen. Sympathetic references were made to Mr Massey, whom Mr Ormsbv-Gore eulogised as a man who had contributed as much as anyone to the councils of Empire. EaTl Jellicoe, responding to the toast of his health, declared that his work in New Zealand had been rendered easy by his predecessors. He regretted tint he went to New Zealand 60 years too late. He claimed that New Zealand led the way in preference, old-age pensions, and industrial Arbitration Courts, also in war-time contingents. He mentioned that Mr Lloyd George's Chanak telegram was received in Wellington during his investiture, after which Cabinet immediately met and a reply was dispatched by 0.30 o'clock the same evening. He was most proud of his connexion with New Zealand, and his one wish was for a return visit as soon as his family ties permitted. He concluded with a feeling reference to Mr Masscj', and hopes for his restoration to health.
