COUNTY COUNCILS.
WAIREWA. A special meeting of the Wairewa. County Council was held in the Council Chambers on Thursday night. Present —Mr Frank Coop (chairman), Messrs J. 0. Coop, J. Chapman, JD. Kichards. and M. Barclay.
Tiio meeting was called to consider the question of tar sealing the main highways. Mr Whatman attended and aalted to be allowed to tako soil from the road reserve to fill up the damage done to Lis garden by the lato flood.. It was resolved that the foreman bo. instructed to allow Mr "Whatman to take soil from the roadway reserve, whero ho thought it was not roquired by the Council. Cr. Coop read part of his roport on road construction, which had been read at the previoufi meeting. After discussion it was proposed by Cr. Coop, seconded by Cr. Chapman, and carried, that the Main Highways Board bo asked to allow their engineer to inspect the main highway from Motukarara Bridge to foot of Coach load and report on the. general condition of the road as to its suitability for tar sealing. It was also decided to write to Mr Bruce and ask him to use his influence to get the engineer to report on the work at an early date. Tlio foreman reported that at a rough estimate tho damage done to tho roads by tho late flood would be between £6OO and £IOOO. It was decided to send an application to the Public Workß Department for the subsidy £2 for £1 for the damage done to the Kinloch road in the previous flood, also to apply for grant £2 for £1 for the damage done to the roads and bridges in tho county in tho last flood. It was decided that an inspection, of all roada in the county bo made by the councillors and the'amount of flood damage be esti mated, the chairman and Cr. J. 0. Coop io' report on the Kaituna riding:, Crs. Richards and White on Kinloch riding and Crs. Barclay and Chapman on the Little River riding, the report to be in by next meeting. It was also decided to ask the Public Works Office to allow Mr Simpson to inspect the road. Cr. Coop reported that he had attended the meeting of Group 14 at the City (fcpiuicil offijee, and that it had been decided that the. City Council issue all heavy traffic licenses at a remuneration of 5 per cent, on all fees, discs extra, for the present year. The county districts could collect the fees and remit tho money to the City Council. The proportion of fees would be allocated between the group® to be based on tho amount of rates spent on maintenance on "the county roads.
