Mr. FRED NORTON His Mayoral Policy To the Electors of Lvttelton,— <"* In asking your support o£ my can* didature for the Mayoralty of Lyttclton, I may perhaps remind you that I haw served many years of apprenticeship in your employ, baring performed the honorary duties of every public office open to me. I am confident, therefore, that on Wednesday next you will see fit to place me in the proud position of being your leading citizen. I promise to support every movement for the economic and general welfare of the community in general, in particular to extend greater assistance to the ratepayers in ontcr areas, where, among other things, existing water tables, ditches, and clay footpaths are a source -of vexation to residents. . It would be. my aim to induce the Council to appoint two Councillors to act conjointly with the Chairman of Works'as overseers of the town. I feel sure it would go a long way in working for efficiency in the Council's construction and maintenance policy within the Borough. I consider the present financial position of the Council to be highly satisfactory, and, further, if the Electors are careful in their ehoice of suitable men and women to carry on municipal business, there is no reason why it should not shotv a good balaneesheet and further reduce tbe rates. I am in favour of a superannuation scheme for the employees of the Council, also the Progressive Building Poliey that has for its object erection of homes for the residents of the Borough at th» cost within their means of purchase. I consider the present 3«o. 6 Goods Shed a great disadvantage and most unpardonable drawback to our town folks and business people. Our commercial depot should be near and haudy. I shall persistently pusli for a remedy in this direction. .As far as it concerns Lyttclton, I think it quite fair the Chairman or Mayor should vacate his seat every two years without seeking re-election. fO6O Tours faithfully, *"] I". G. NORTON".
