The annual report of the South Canterbury Chamber of Commerce, to be presented at the annual meeting on Tuesday flight, states that the exocutive records with pleasure a rovival of interest in the affairs of the Chamber and a substantial increase in membership. The report proceeds: The Chamber has interested itself keenly in the question of advertising New Zealand generally and South Canterbury in particular. At the March meeting the exeentivc set up a publicity committee to consider the question and bring down a report containing concrete proposals for subsequent action by the Chamber. From the time the Minister brought down his programme of railway works, constant pressure has been exerted to have the Tearrangoment at Timaru yards undertakon at an earlier date' than that set out in the programme, i.e., five years hence. Mr F. J. Eolleston, M.P., gave invaluable assistance, and there is every reason to believe that the efforts of the Chamber will meet with some moasuro of success. Correspondence passed between, the Chamber, and the Department of Industries and Commerce regarding tho possibilities of developing trade between South Canterbury and the East. Difficulties in regard to representation, also the question of cold storage, etc., have prevented any further developments in the meantime. Financially, the Chamber is in a very healthy position,.
