BOROUGH COUNCILS.

AKAROA. The last meeting, of the Akaroa Borough Council, as at present constituted, was held on - Wednesday. Present—The Mayor (Mr Geo. . Armstrong), Crs C W. Leetc. W. W. Williams. C. Stewart T. Masefield. A. J. Faithfull, IC. PilWton! and W. Pool. Leave of absence was <rranted to Crs. H. J. Barnham aDd C. S. Parnliam.

The Mayor was deputed to represent Akaroa at a meeting of Peninsula local bodies, to he held early in May. for the purpose of appointing an executive that shall be responsible for th:> maintenance of the war memorial and the site.

The Government Publicity ■ Offic?r. 'Wellington, wrote thanking the C-.uucil for its invitation, and stating that ho would be pleased to visit Akaroa li'.ter in the year with an official photographer.

Thc reports of the Works and Reserves Committees were read and adopted. The foreman, in his repo-t, stated that ail flood damage had' been repaired. The Borough gardener reported that Mr W. H. Joyce, Papanui. had presented the Council with a very fine collection of plants, etc. A hearty vote of thanlt3 was acco:ded to Mr Joyce.

Considerable discussion tool; place on the matter cf the recent flo-ds in the town, puticularly at Hammond s Coiner and in the vicinity of the Recreation Ground, caused by the blockage of accumulated storm waters. On the Mayor's motion, it was decidpd to ask the Works Committee to prepare a special report thereon, and on Cr. Stewart's motion, to hare plun3 prepared for proposed alterations to the. Grehan Valley bridge on the Main road.

This being the last meeting of the present Council, the Mayor warmly thanked Councillors' f?r the loyal support and hearty en-operation extended to him during the term now closed.

Cr. ('. W. Leete, as IVp"ty-Mayor, thanked the Mayor for his kindlv. irmarks, and paid a- warm tribute to him for the fair and impartial wav in which lie had' oa-ried out his duties. He congratulated the Mayor on his re-election unopposed, and wished him another successful term of office
