PARISH MEETINGS.

NEW BRIGHTON. The annual meeting of Kew Brighton parishioners was held in the parish room, Beach Church, on Tuesday evening, at which the vicar, the Rev. C. W. I, Maclavcrty, presided over a good attendance. The chairman, in hia opening remarks, outlining the work done during' the past twelve months, made particular reference to the excellent progress in the building of the new church, »lso the anticipated success of the new scheme of weekly free-will offering 3 recently instituted. Mr Miles <T«ople'3 Churchwarden), in his financial report, showed a very satisfactory year of working, which -would havo been better still but for tho restrictions entailed by the prevailing epidemic. Nominations •were received for officers for the forthcoming year, and the following were elected:—Vicar's churchwarden. Mr R. Barprove; people's churchwarden, Mr W. Miles; veetry, Rev. W. -F. Knowles and Mfcsats Blackburn, De Roo, Hockley, Leaver. McCreanor, Robins, Sa-mucla, Underbuy and Ward. The vicar naked the meeting 1 to sanction an applicatien for a further loan of £6OO, which sum is required in «rd«r to complete the new stono church by the addition of the two bays at the west-end, an shown on the original plan. This was moved by Mr Miles, seconded by Mr Bargrevc, and carried unanimously. If the necessary loan is forthcoming, the work on the church will- be accelerated in order to have it completed within * few months.

Mr Miles gave notice of motion that he would bring 1 forward a proposal at the fiift available meeting of parishioners to rescind the resolution passed at a former meeting to namo the new church "St. Faith's." This will gWo the parishioners an opportunity of finally deciding by an absolute majerity the name mostly in favour. ST. STEPHEN'S, SHIRLEY. The annual meeting of St. Stephen's Church, Shirley, was hold in tho Pariah Hall, and was well attended. Tho people's warden, Mr F. T. Owera, read the financial statement, which showed that there had been a_n increase in thp offertories (£264 6s Od this year, as against 4256 9e 9d last year), but a great drop in the returns from sales and entertainments (only £ll4 3s lid this year, as against £3lO 7s ldd last year). This was duo very giwtlyto the infantile paralysis restrictions malting it impossible to hold an? mitumn function*. But the fine response to the epeeal appeal hits enabled the vestry to present quite a tolei able statement.

Tho vicar stated that there had been .1? .baptisms, 13 candidates confirmed, six marriages, and 10 burials. Ho thanked Messrs Morgan and Owets, the wardens, for the high ideal of their office they always had maintained; and, in accordance with his promise made last year, he would at this mealing nominate <v new warden. No «ne could begrudge the retiring wardens their well-earned rest.

Mr Drayton was nominated minister"* warden, and the following wero electee! : People's warden, Mr Cox; vestry,' Messrs Black, Burrows, Court, Edwards, Hassell, Law, Stringer, and Woodward. A special vote of thanks' to the retiring wardens was passed with acclamation, and Mr Morgan suitably replied. The new vestry met for a few minutes and fixed their meeting-night for the last Monday of each month.
