Ue.porls ou road conditions, descriptions of routes, and notes on attractive picnicking spots for motorists, are published in this column weekly. Arrangements have been made for the regular supplv of up-to-date information. Enquiries, suggestions, or road news will be welcomed.
Oxford. —The Oxford district provides such a popular run, that motorists are frequently exercised as to which is the best road to takf when going to that locality. One road which is very little used and which is well worth taking is that which is known as the South Eyre road, often erroneously described as the Harewood road. On it. pot-holes arc rarely met with and grass is growing through the gravel in a number of places. Over its entire length it is probably the best road to the hill township. From a sight-seeing ' point of view it does not come up to other roads, as for fifteen miles it proceeds in a perfectly straight line, with very few farmsteadings to relieve the monotony of the surroundings.
Main North Eoad. —The Main North road north to Kaiapoi has been greatly improved by the use of the grader, and motorists who have occasion to go over tho road are loud in their praises at the change that has taken placo in it lately.
Bealoy.—The surprising feature about the road from Christehurch to the Boaley River is its excellent surface after the first few miles of road contiguous to Christehurch-are passed, except for a broken piece of river-bed rr»l near Craigicburn. As a result, travelling over Porter's Pass and through Cass has been greatly facilitated. The Tavern County Council, the authority which is responsible for the road, is to be complimented on its work in this connexion.
