OBITUARY.

MR F. C. KNUBLEY. Mr Francis Clissold Knubley, eldest son of Mr M. J. Knubley and the late Mrs Knubley, passed away in Timaru yesterday morning, after a long illness. Having seen extensive service in the South African War and in the Great War, and having been severely wounded on each occasion, Mr Knubley returned to New Zealand in 1919, but his lot was indifferent health, which, during the past few years, gradually became worse, culminating in his death. The late Mr Knubley's war record was a splendid one. In 1599 he left New Zealand for South Africa with the Second Contingent, and in May of the following year was severely wounded, at Johannesburg. For his service in South Africa Mr Knubley was granted the Military Medal with three bars. On August 14th, 1915, with the rank of lance-corporal, the late Mr Knubley left for with the South Canterbury Mounted Rifles, in the Sixth Reinforcements. Gallipoli was reached iu September, 1910, and he served on the Peninsula until the evacuation in December of the same year. In an action at El Romain on August 9th, 1916,- he was wounded, and was again wounded in a later engagement. Mr Knubley returned to New Zealand in March, 1917, and haviirg gained a commission as lieutenant. V-ft for the front again on November 13th of the same year as officer commanding the 84th Reinforcements. After the signing of the Armistice. he returned to Gallipoli with his regiment, and was garrisoned there for some time, returning to New Zealand in September, 1919. In the same month Mr Knubley was married to Miss Kathleen Cooper Chapman, daughter of the late Mr Walter Chapman, of Christchuroh, who is left with a young daughter to mourn her sad loss. _ In deference to his own expressed wish and the wish of his widow, deceased will be buried without military honours.
