CALEDONIAN SOCIETY.

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Canterbury Caledonian Society was held last evening, the president, Mr C. S. Thomas, in the chair, and there being a good attendance. The president, in moving'the adoption of the directors' report and balancesheet, said that the past year had been one of transition from 'the old order to the new. It was the first year that they had been in the new hall, and he thought that the hall had proved very satisfactory. The assets exceeded the liabilities by over £3OOO. In regard to the Benevolent Fund, the directors had decided to change the policy, and had paid o'ut in every deserving case, instead of accumulating a large fund. The'hall had been wonderfully successful. - The expenses had been greater than they expected, but tHe revenue had vastly exceeded their.estimates. He referred to thet suggestion that a New Zealand Scottish Federation should be formed, and he trusted that within a couple of years it would be an accomplished fact. The motion was adopted.

Fifteen new members were elected. It was decided to combine the office of secretary and treasurer) and also- to end the Society's year on the last day of February. The election of officers resulted as follows: —Patron, his Excellency the Governor-General, Sir Charles Fergusson; president, Mr C. S. Thomas; vicepresidents, Messrs G. Eitchie, A. Mackenzie, E. H. Eankin, and G. Sey; direc tors (five retiring by rotation), Messrs M. J. Burns, A. H. Patterson, B. Wilson, A. Staunton, E. Wilson, and F. G. Bell; auditor, Mr J. Mawson Stewart; secretary, Mr W. George Brass.
